Historical Information: The Murray State University Police Department began on February 1, 1926 when the first night watchman was hired to patrol the campus grounds. The number of watchmen increased during the 1930 and 1940s, and in 1957 a fulltime parking policeman was employed. The Security Force Office was established on January 1, 1968 and the first Director of Security appointed. A few years afterward, the name was shortened to the Security Office which in 1988 became part of the Public Safety Department. In 2005, the University Police Department became its own independent division within the Public Safety & Security Department.
Scope and Content: Collection consists of daily crime and fire logs released to the public on the Murray State University Police Department website from 2000 to the present.
