Biographical / Historical Information: The Paducah Business and Professional Women’s Club was organized by Ann I. Baker as the Business Women’s Club of Paducah in 1920. The club first met on September 23, 1920 and was chartered on October 5, 1920. The club was later renamed so as to be affiliated with the national organization of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs. The club initially assisted qualified women in locating jobs and encouraging local businesses in developing professional positions for women. The club presently supports workforce development programs and workplace policies that recognize the diverse needs of working women, communities and businesses.
Scope and Content: Collections consists of scrapbooks kept by the Paducah Business and Professional Women’s Club of Paducah, Kentucky from 1931 to 1973. The annual scrapbooks contain photographs, newspaper clippings, programs, correspondence and ephemera related to events sponsored by the club or events attended by members. Included with the scrapbooks are club constitutions and by-laws, song books and membership cards from 1923 to 1950 that list names, occupations and employers.
