Biographical / Historical Information: C. C. Landreth was a soldier that served in the Confederate States Army with Company B of the 7th Arkansas Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. He was a resident of Jackson County, Arkansas prior to the beginning of the war. He enlisted as a private on June 16, 1861. The regiment trained at Camp Shaver near Pocahontas, Arkansas in June and July of 1861. In early October he was stationed at Columbus, Kentucky. On December 31, 1861, it is believed that Landreth died at Columbus after contracting a sickness.

 

Scope and Content: Collection consists of three photocopied letters written by C. C. Landreth to family members while serving as a private in the 7th Arkansas Infantry Regiment from July to October of 1861. The letters describe camp life and troop movements. A letter dated October 5th mentions an accidental shooting that occurred in the 6th Arkansas Infantry Regiment that killed a man.
