Biographical / Historical Information: June G. Davis served in the 716th Squadron of the 449th Bombardment Group, 47th Wing, 15th Air Force from May 19th to October 29th, 1944. He successfully completed 51 bombing missions over Yugoslavia, Romania, Czechoslovakia and Germany. Davis was stationed at Grottaglie Airfield near Taranto, Italy and served aboard a B-24 “Silver Bay Babe”.
Scope and Content: Collection consists of a typescript diary titled “Hello Late Pass, Hello!” by June G. Davis. The diary describes his service in the United States Army Air Force as a nose gunner in Europe during the Second World War. The diary begins with Davis’ training at Tyndall Field, Florida in late 1943 and concludes with his final bombing mission on October 29, 1944.
