Biographical / Historical Information: Benjamin Yarbrough was private and musician in the 22nd Tennessee Infantry Regiment. He joined the 22nd on June 19, 1861 at Trenton, Tennessee. Prior to the war, he was a farmer from Gibson County. He saw action at the Battle of Belmont on November 7, 1861 and lost his life at the Battle of Shiloh on April 7, 1862.

 

Scope and Content: Collection consists of photocopies and transcripts of four letters written by Benjamin Yarbrough from Columbus, Kentucky to his wife Mary J. Yarbrough from September 22, 1861 to January 26, 1862. The letters describe the troop movements of the 22nd Tennessee Infantry Regiment, camp life and a battle he participated in on November 7, 1861 at Belmont, Missouri.
